J. T. Spurlin (Baptist pastor) · Peoplestrong Dr. J. T. Spurlin (1908–2000) was a Southern Baptist pastor from Kentucky. He organized the First Baptist Church of Juneau, Alaska, in 1946 and presided over the first annual sessions of the Alaska Baptist Convention.
James M. Spurlin (Georgia Baptist preacher) · Historymixed Rev. James M. Spurlin (1802–1887) was a Baptist preacher, ordained in Chambers County, Alabama, who served churches in Randolph County, Alabama, and Troup and Fayette counties, Georgia. He is buried at Antioch Baptist Church in Fayette County, Georgia.
James Utley Spurlin (Kentucky Baptist preacher) · Historystrong Rev. James Utley Spurlin (1824–1909) was a Baptist preacher in western Kentucky for about 65 years and the first pastor of Sinking Fork ("Brick") Baptist Church in Christian County. In 1907 the Hopkinsville Kentuckian called him the second-oldest Baptist preacher in the state. He died near Sinking Fork on 30 October 1909. His son John H. Spurlin and grandson Lindsay Spurlin were also preachers; a great-grandson, J. T. Spurlin, organized a church in Juneau, Alaska, and another grandson, R. P. Spurlin, was a dentist in Berryville, Arkansas.
Spurlins of Christian County, Kentucky · Genealogymixed Spurlin families from North Carolina were in Christian County, in western Kentucky, by about 1800. Later generations included a line of Baptist preachers who served churches around Hopkinsville and in neighbouring Trigg County, and the county has a Spurlin Cemetery north of Hopkinsville.
W. H. Spurlin (Tipton County, Indiana, preacher) · Historymixed Rev. Wilford H. Spurlin (1833–1919) was an Ohio-born farmer and Separate Baptist preacher who cleared a homestead in Tipton County, Indiana, after 1872. He is profiled in an 1898 county biographical history, and 1915 and 1919 obituaries tie him to the Spurlins of Shelby County, where his brother Ithamar was sheriff.
