Bob Spurlin (baseball)
Robert Eugene "Bob" Spurlin (born 1958) is an American former minor league catcher, drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 1980 out of Northern Illinois University, who played in the Giants and Pirates systems through 1984.

Robert Eugene "Bob" Spurlin (born September 18, 1958) is an American former minor league baseball catcher.[1]
College and draft
Spurlin played college baseball at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. The school's 1980 roster lists him as a senior catcher who batted and threw right-handed.[2] The San Francisco Giants drafted him in the 43rd round of the June 1980 amateur draft.[1] Baseball-Reference lists him at 6 ft 2 in and 185 pounds.[1]
Minor league career
- 1980–1982 (Giants system): He caught for the Fresno Giants of the California League in 1980, 1981 and 1982, and also for the Clinton Giants of the Midwest League in 1981.[1] He played 73 games for Fresno in 1982.[1]
- 1983–1984 (Pirates system): In 1983 he moved to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He played 7 games for the Greenwood Pirates (South Atlantic League) and 27 for the Watertown Pirates (New York–Penn League). In 1984 he played 29 games for the Macon Pirates of the South Atlantic League.[1]
Over five seasons he played 262 minor league games, 217 of them as a catcher, and batted .218. He drew 135 walks and struck out 124 times; he walked more often than he struck out in three of his five seasons.[1] All of his games were at Class A or short-season Class A.[1]
