A 2021 blog post from the Bean Hole Days arts and crafts fair in Pequot Lakes describes his method: he "takes a chunk of wood and then saws it into a puzzle with a hidden space inside."[3] A 2016 Park Rapids Enterprise article on Heartland Art Studio in Dorset says his puzzle boxes were for sale there. In the same article, gallery owner Paul Albright praised his "real good sense of design" and his attention to detail.[1] The Park Rapids Enterprise also photographed Ken and Mary Spurlin of Nevis drawing a crowd with the boxes at the Forestedge Art Fair in August 2025.[2]

Spurlin boxes are resold online. WorthPoint's archive records a sale titled "BEAUTIFUL SIGNED KEN SPURLIN HANDMADE 4 PIECE TRINKET BOX 1999 APPLE WOOD #1246".[4] An eBay listing offered a "Ken Spurlin Signed 9 Piece Split-Level Wood Puzzle Box".[5] The titles suggest the boxes are signed, numbered and dated and made in several woods, including apple and maple.
