Ryan Spurling is an American law-enforcement officer and the elected sheriff of Mason County, Washington.[1][2]
Career
According to his county biography, Spurling served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1984 to 1988 and in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1988 to 2005, including active duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom.[1] He spent 25 years with the Washington State Patrol before joining the Mason County Sheriff's Office in 2013 as Chief Criminal Deputy of the North Precinct.[1] He holds a bachelor's degree in business management and criminal justice from Liberty University.[1] The biography also says he volunteers as a coach, teaches martial arts and takes part in community groups and church services.[1]
Elections
In February 2022, Source One News reported that Spurling, then Mason County's chief deputy and the department's third-ranking officer, was preparing to run for sheriff. He then commanded the Police Operations Division for both precincts.[3] Spurling ran as a Republican in the August 2, 2022, primary for sheriff.[4] He became the 41st elected sheriff since the office was created in 1854.[1] Ballotpedia lists him as a candidate for re-election in 2026, with a primary on August 4 and a general election on November 3.[5] The Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce lists him in its directory under "Elected Officials & Political Candidates".[2]
