Tracy Spurlin is a soul singer who recorded "If You Could Read My Mind" with producer George Kerr on a 1986 Harbor Light Records 12-inch single, now a rare-groove collectible.

Tracy Spurlin is a singer credited with producer and songwriter George Kerr on the 1986 12-inch single "If You Could Read My Mind" / "Don't Fight The Feeling", issued in the US on Harbor Light Records as HL 1004.[1][2]

The record

Discogs lists the record at 33⅓ rpm. Side A has short and long versions of "If You Could Read My Mind" and a one-minute "Women" version, all credited to Tracy Spurlin and George Kerr. Side B has short and long versions of "Don't Fight The Feeling", credited to Kerr alone. Kerr is credited as producer and co-arranger with Billy Biddle, and Paul Hillstrom as executive producer.[1] Discogs lists a second, undated pressing of HL 1004 with the same credits.[2][3] It tells the two apart by label colour: the 1986 US issue has a silver label, and the undated pressing has a red one.[1][3]

The song is a cover. WhoSampled lists the Spurlin–Kerr recording as a cover of "If You Could Read My Mind" by the 1980s band Attitude, from its 1983 Atlantic album Pump the Nation, produced by David Frank and Mic Murphy.[4] A later CD credits the song to Frank and Murphy as writers.[5]

Reissues

The Japanese label P-Vine added the track, as "If You Could Read My Mind" featuring Tracy Spurlin, as a bonus to its 1990 CD reissue of Kerr's album Love Love Love (Love Love Love + 4, PCD-2133).[5] Discogs lists it on the unofficial 2005 CD box set Rare Groove Story.[6] It also lists a track titled "Win Your Love", credited to Tracy Spurlin, on the unofficial 1992 German compilation LP The Good Groove Volume 4 (Zig Zag).[7] A five-track digital EP of the single, If You Could Read My Mind / Don't Fight the Feeling, was released in 2014 with a ℗ 2014 Essential Media Group notice.[8]

As a collectible

In September 2026 Discogs showed 89 users wanting the 1986 silver-label pressing and 50 owning it,[1] and 63 users wanting the undated red-label pressing and 10 owning it.[3] The UK soul specialist Soulbrother Records was then offering a pre-owned US copy, graded Excellent, for £20.[9]
