Robert Dean "Bob" Spurlin (October 20, 1945 – April 7, 2016) was an American preacher in the Churches of Christ and the author of devotional and inspirational books.[1][2][3]
Life
According to his funeral-home obituary, Spurlin was born in Morgan County, Alabama, and was a native of the Union community of Somerville. He graduated from Cotaco High School and from the Memphis School of Preaching, and he served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.[1] The obituary says he preached for many congregations in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida before retiring, and that he had been disabled by multiple sclerosis since 1995.[1]
He died at home on April 7, 2016, aged 70. His son Paul Spurlin was one of the two men who conducted the service, and he was buried at Antioch Cemetery in Somerville.[1] His Find a Grave memorial, which describes him as a "Gospel preacher", gives the place of death as Hartselle, Alabama, and the cemetery as Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.[2]
Ministry
The Algood church of Christ lists Bob Spurlin among its former preachers.[4] Its history says that at the congregation's 100-year homecoming on 7 May 2000, his son Paul Spurlin stood in for him because Bob could not travel on account of multiple sclerosis.[4]
Books
His obituary credits him with three inspirational books.[1] Open Library lists two of them, both from Sain Publications: Tackling Life's Troubles (2000) and Don't Ever Give Up (2003).[5][6] His Goodreads author page lists four works. Besides those two, it includes an alternate edition of Don't Ever Give Up! and Dial 911: Essentials to Living Life in the 21st Century.[3] Tackling Life's Troubles also has an Amazon listing.[7]
