Spurlin Funeral Home is a locally owned and operated funeral home in Stanford, Kentucky, serving Stanford and the surrounding area.[1][2] It is one of three central Kentucky funeral homes operated under the Spurlin name, alongside Spurlin Funeral Home of Lancaster and Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home in Danville.
Building history
According to the funeral home, its brick building was built in 1856 as the residence of a local banker.[3] Around the turn of the 20th century it became a boarding house known as "The Brass Belle."[3] In 1941 Gatewood and Pearl Beazley purchased the property and converted it into a funeral home; Pearl Beazley ran it for some 45 years, with occasional partners, until it closed on her retirement in 1985.[3]
Spurlin ownership
The Spurlin family bought the building from the Beazley heirs in 1998 with the aim of returning it to funeral service. After renovation and the addition of a new chapel, Spurlin Funeral Home has been operating since January 1999.[3]

The firm offers traditional funeral arrangements, pre-planning, online obituaries and memorial features, veterans' benefits information and grief-support resources.[1] Its obituaries are also syndicated through Legacy.com.[2]

The funeral home's name has also been attached to "General Store", a call-in trading show on WPBK-FM in Stanford. A June 2017 Interior Journal article about the departure of the show's long-time host, Renee Knies, who was leaving the station to work for a hospice, called it the station's most popular show.
